How much should a pointer eat daily?
Recommended daily amount: 2 to 3 cups of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals.
Assuming your dog has a typical activity level, toy breeds should have about ¼ cups to 1 cup, small breeds should have about 1 cup to 1 2/5 cup, medium breeds should have about 2 cups to 2 2/3 cups, and large breeds should have about 2 4/5 cups to 3 cups. -Senior dogs should be fed a little less than adult dogs.
Focus on those fresh ingredients like chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, or sweet potato. Cooked brown or white rice are great sources of healthy carbs and moisture. Avoid peas or potatoes if your GSP has a sensitive tummy. Avoid onions and garlic and never season dog food with spices as you would with your own dinner.
Most, normally active GSPs will require a higher level of fat and protein than many other breeds, throughout their lives. Adults will eat from 2-5 cups of food a day, depending on the individual dogs metabolism and how much activity they are getting.
But how much should you feed if feeding raw? The average suggestion is to feed between 2-3% of your GSP's body weight, split up between two meals each day. So if your dog is 50 pounds, they would get between 1-1.5 pounds of food each day.
English Pointers are not dominant dogs, but they can be a challenge to train because they are so easily distracted by exciting sights, sounds, and scents. It takes some training experience to hold the dog's attention.
You should be able to feel individual ribs, but not see the definition of each rib. This is a good rule of thumb. If you don't feel his ribs, it means you're overfeeding him. If you see visible ribs, then your dog is truly hungry and needs more food.
Dogs should eat at least two meals each day, about 12 hours apart. But a breakfast, lunch, and dinner schedule is an equally great option. If more than 12 hours elapses between meals, the stomach can become hyperacidic causing nausea.
Like humans, dogs can fill more fulfilled after eating more fiber, because it isn't digestible. Fiber is one of the most important ingredients for gastrointestinal health, allowing your dog to feel more full without having any extra calories in his diet.
Depending upon its age a young GSP may require feeding more than two times in a day. It is recommended to use the same type of dog food and follow the feeding schedule used by the breeder. Once they reach adulthood being fed twice a day; AM & PM is sufficient.

|20 lbs||3 to 5 months||2 1/2 cups|
|40 lbs||5 to 9 months||3 cups|

I recommend 1 to 1/2 cups of food per 10 lbs body weight daily while actively growing. Three times daily till three months then twice daily.
